Amber of All Done Up Salon - hairstylist head shots - downtown phoenix

Meet Amber Sullivan, co-owner of All Done Up Salon in Scottsdale, AZ.  She specializes in on location beautification including hair and makeup, weddings are a huge part of their business.  I have had the privilege of working with Amber on multiple projects including boudoir sessions, a wedding concept shoot, and she did my hair for my own wedding!  Amber has been doing hair for as long as she can remember.  When she was in high school, she was booking hair appointments for other classmates for updos and makeup application.  She became licensed four years ago and started her business with her business partner two years ago.

Upcoming 2015 Wedding Hair Trends

Amber anticipates brides having upcoming spring weddings will be wearing braids, loose curls and waves, and messy updos.

She expects to see the lightening of hair with the balayage hair color technique. Balayage is a hair coloring technique designed to create natural-looking highlights that grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root.

Long bobs are in style for haircut trends.

Dos
  • Do moisturize your hair in weeks leading up to the wedding
  • Do remember to bring your veil and hair jewelry for the trial updo
Don’ts
  • Don’t change your hair color or cut within a couple months to your wedding, figure out what you like and stick with it.  But do get touchups at least 2 weeks prior to the big day.
  • Don’t come with greasy hair on the wedding day. People with oily hair should wash their hair the day before or morning of the wedding.  People that have hair that can go a few days without washing wash your hair 1 to 2 days prior.
  • Ladies with curly hair – Don’t straighten your hair, come with natural hair for the stylist.
  • Don’t wear your hair in a ponytail the day of the wedding prior to getting it styled, leaving you hair down and natural is the best

DIY tricks and tips for photo shoot hair  (boudoir, family, etc.)

Make sure to use a root booster when you hair is wet, apply underneath the top layer of hair towards the root area.  This will help with getting extra volume.  Blow dry your hair in the opposite direction of your part you want to create more volume, tease at root if needed once dry.  Then add curls with a medium to large curling iron making sure the curls are going away from your face and spray lightly with hairspray then run your finger through your hair to loosen curls or flip your hair over and shake…spray again and you are good to go. If you need to smooth fly aways use a cream or oily produce, rub into palms first and lightly apply to your hair and roots last.
